Stainless Steel Compression Spring

A modern office seemingly relies entirely on devices that, just a generation ago, were beyond the pale of even the brightest imaginations. It has computers that not only speak and play video but also do so from flat screens made from artificial crystals. That same office also has machines which, with the flick of a switch, can produce more printed pages in an hour than the Gutenberg press could probably produce in a month. And, on top of all this, that same office is filled with workers from all strains of life who each carry phones that, all to themselves, are independent communication, photography, and data storage devices.

But... look further. Within each of these technologies is something older, simpler, yet all the more important in an age of businesses that either fail or survive based on the leanest of margins. Take that photocopier: Within the maze of its inner working are steel extension springs that prevent trays from sliding out, compression springs that enable service hatches to pop open, and a variety of torsion springs and wire forms that correct the orientation and path of a variety of scanners, cartridges, and paper sorters. There may even be a stainless steel music wire spring lining the inside of the door used to service the machine. Altogether, there are dozens of separate metal springs spread out across the device, each expanding, contracting, or snapping in ways that, when teamed together, turn black toner and white paper into the documents that will not only keep that business afloat but also demonstrate the genius of its members.

The strength and instant feedback spring torsion provides, however, is also seen in the precision compression springs that line the inside of a cell phone as, without ever being exposed to daylight, they enable such devices to be turned on and off. Imagine an office where, without such small precision springs, all the apparently modern touch screens were blank because a simple, centuries-old technology was not there to switch them on. Imagine a lamp, even one with a contemporary LED or fluorescent bulb, that could not stay in place because the flexibility extension steel provides could not be called upon to swing or adjust its arms. Imagine, even, a chair that was useless for long hours of work because, lacking the compression steel springs permit, its bottom was as uncomfortable as a log. It's hard to imagine such a workplace, because without the precision springs provide in small areas, the ability of long compression springs to control the movement of even heavy pieces, the resilience of torsional springs, and a host of other stainless steel spring applications, there would be no working tools or devices of any kind in that office. Even the stapler wouldn't work.

Just as this proverbial office, with all its modern devices, could not function without springs, so too would the wider world halt without the steel spring's ability to cheaply store and resist energy. At Stanley Spring and Stamping we're committed to providing the manufacturers of all those modern amenities the precision springs they need to make all the parts within the working world... work.
